Why Experience Matters in a Remodeling Partner

The Value of Four Decades of Trust Homeownership can be a rollercoaster; sometimes it can feel like everything is out of your control. Renovating your home, in particular, is a vulnerable time for many homeowners. Investing your time, money, and energy into any project induces anxiety, but having it happen at home raises the stakes. Not to mention, if things go wrong, you're on the hook for costly, complex, and disruptive fixes. In our opinion, the only antidote to remodeling anxiety is proven, long-term experience. At Knight Construction Design, our team has been making homeowners' dreams a reality for four decades. It all starts from our strong foundation: quality craftsmanship, creative design solutions, and trusted contractors. This stability enables us to predictably deliver excellent results for Twin Cities homeowners. Keep reading to learn more about how this experience creates tangible value for our clients.   Expertise in Twin Cities Homes Every metro area's housing stock has its own idiosyncrasies; a time-tested remodeler knows their market. For example, Minneapolis and St. Paul are both known for a mix of older housing, including Victorians and Bungalows. Our team is familiar with the common problem areas in these homes, including knob-and-tube wiring, outdated plumbing, and insulation/draftiness. We've managed these challenges before, and we know how to uncover and address them.   Navigating the Minnesota Climate If you live in Minnesota or the Midwest, then you know that the climate impacts everything. No part of life goes untouched by the weather: our plans, travel, routines, and, of course, homes. Given the harsh climate, our team emphasizes the importance of choosing durable building materials. Our decades of experience mean we'll steer you toward energy-efficient siding, roofing, and windows built to withstand our brutal winters and humid summers.   Financial Stability and Project Management Two other major advantages of collaborating with a time-tested remodeling team are financial stability and project management experience. Most homeowners don't have the skills and knowledge to execute a successful renovation, and that's okay; it's why you hire a professional! Read the list below for a few more benefits of working with a seasoned pro.
    • Budget Predictability No remodeling project is immune to surprises, but an expert project manager can guide you through any bumps in the road and adjust your budget accordingly.
    • Accurate Bidding: An experienced firm has seen it all and can budget accurately from the start, reducing costly change orders and big mid-project adjustments.
    • Vendor Relationships Established firms have trusted relationships with local suppliers and tradespeople, often securing better pricing and reliability that smaller or newer companies cannot.
Process and Timeline Efficiency Beyond its budget and overall scope, a trustworthy contractor knows how to guide and manage your project. When remodeling, the result is important - of course it is! However, the process of getting there should also be as peaceful and low-stress as possible. You don't just hire a professional for their background; you're enlisting their services, which includes their building process and timeline project management. For example, at Knight Construction Design, you can count on:
    • Streamlined Project Flow From the initial consultation to the final walkthrough, our process is polished and efficient - we've developed it after hundreds of previous client projects!
    • Expert Oversight Our project managers bring decades of hands-on experience and problem-solving skills to keep every job on time and on budget.
The Difference in Quality: Craftsmanship and Design Remodeling is a huge financial investment; quality of craftsmanship matters. Good design stands the test of time; it not only looks beautiful but is also durable. Here are a few hallmarks of high-quality home design:
    • Superior Craftsmanship The best remodelers are true craftspeople; their work stands above the competition and speaks for itself.
    • Attention to Detail True quality comes from a team that adheres to the highest standards of artistry, ensuring the finished product not only looks good today but lasts for years.
    • Trusted Subcontractors A long-running firm uses a reliable network of electricians, plumbers, and specialty contractors who meet their exacting standards—not a rotating cast of unfamiliar workers.
    • Award-Winning Design Acumen Another indicator of unforgettable, quality design: industry accolades and awards. The cream always rises to the top!
    • Blending Timelessness and Trends Our team uses its knowledge to create designs that are both modern and timeless, protecting your investment.
    • Personalized Results The goal isn't a template; it's a custom-fit solution that reflects your unique lifestyle!
It doesn't matter what service you're seeking, from a doctor to a plumber to a remodeler, experience matters. No one wants an unpracticed surgeon taking care of their body, the same goes for our homes. You need to trust the people tearing down walls, moving electric wires, and installing your kitchen cabinets. Hiring a time-tested remodeler reduces project risks, safeguards your budget, and ensures superior quality. It's been a while since we shared any of the projects we've been working on, and today we're coming back strong! Our team recently put the finishing touches on this stunning new build in Wayzata, and it's truly something special. Designing new construction in an established community is a delicate balance. Certainly, the home will feature the technology and amenities of modern construction, but its essence should feel classic and blend into the surrounding neighborhood. It doesn't get more charming than downtown Wayzata; this lakeside town is a slice of Minnesota history that J.J. Hill once called home! Our mission was to create a modern home that complements Wayzata's charming small-town vibe. We're excited about the results! As soon as you step inside, this home feels like a breath of fresh air, with an elegant, transitional style. A seasoned host will feel right at home here, from the formal yet welcoming main floor to the casual basement bar. Interior Home Remodeling for a 1930s Home in Wayzata

Preserving the charm of a 1930s home while integrating modern amenities is no easy task, but we were excited to work on this interior home remodeling project in Wayzata. Utilizing our interior design services, our goal was to create a perfect balance of character and contemporary living while ensuring every detail flowed beautifully throughout the home.

Enhancing Curb Appeal with an Exterior Update

The exterior of this Wayzata home was beautifully updated with siding in a rich, modern color, and windows that fill the home with natural light, which has created a welcoming new entryway. One of our favorite updates is the enclosed transition from the house to the new garage – it adds both charm and practicality.

Creating Warm and Inviting Interiors with Modern Enhancements

Inside, we focused on blending modern comforts with historic details through our expert interior home remodeling and interior design services. The new hardwood floors brought warmth and depth to every room, while the rebuilt staircases offer both style and current code compliance. A new mudroom and enclosed spaces add function while maintaining the home’s original charm. Every window, trim, and detail was carefully considered to create a space that feels both fresh and timeless.  The kitchen remodeling included new cabinets, countertops, and tile that feel both sophisticated and welcoming. We introduced fresh fixtures and finishes for a timeless look in the bathroom remodeling portion of the project. The upper-level rooms were also remodeled to include larger closets, with a spacious walk-in closet in the master bedroom.

Knight Construction Design is known for its award-winning remodeling projects, including the Edina renovation that earned it 2015 national Contractor of the Year honors in the $250,001-$500,000 whole-house category from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). It also has built complete custom homes half a dozen times when the right properties became available. This is one of them!

See 132 Benton Ave. N home this weekend

Know someone who wants a brand new, 4-bedroom custom home in an established neighborhood and premium 55391 zip code that’s secluded but within walking distance of entertainment, shopping and Minnesota’s premier lake? Then mark your calendar to visit 132 Benton Ave. N., Wayzata, 1:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday, August 15.

The home is in Gary Knight’s own Wayzata neighborhood, nestled conveniently behind the new Walgreen’s Pharmacy at Wayzata Blvd. and Central Avenue.

Quality inside and out

From outside, you’ll fall in love with the classic front and rear porches and prominent gables that make the two-story scale more like a story-and-a-half behind the mature front lawn maple.

With 3,120 square feet of living space, it offers a large, center-island gourmet kitchen and walk-in pantry, luxurious master suite, second floor laundry, open main-level floor plan and fully finished lower level. But the true charm comes from the oversized natural stone fireplace, rich finished-in-place walnut floors, elegant turned staircase and sun-splashed Marvin windows.

Convenience plus privacy

“This home is within walking distance of great restaurants, grocery, coffee shops, clothing stores and Lake Minnetonka, and you can be on the highway to Minneapolis in minutes,” Gary said. “As the city improves the intersection at Wayzata Blvd. and the blue spruces in the backyard mature over the next few years, the property will become even more valuable, accessible and secluded.”

Major remodeling makes sense for families who like the location of their existing homes and are prepared to live through months of design and construction. If not, they usually are better off buying a move-in-ready home that meets all of their needs.

“Benton Ave. is perfect for a family who would prefer a brand new home in an established neighborhood with character rather than in a big new subdivision,” Gary said.

In remodeling, the trick is to make the new fit with the old. Benton Ave. posed a different challenge. Knight needed to fit a large, family-friendly home on a narrow lot and make it suit the neighborhood. They achieved the goal by tucking the attached 2-1/2-car garage around back and optimizing living space on all three levels.

The home is listed at $1,095,000 with Gary Petersen of Coldwell Banker Burnet Realty. To request a personal showing, call 952-451-0284. Learn more about quality construction by exploring the Knight Construction Design website.
